51million-watch-bb10-launch

An average of 5.1million viewers tuned in to the Big Brother 10 launch show last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

4.8million people (a 22.1% share of the audience) tuned in to see this year’s contestants enter the Big Brother house on Channel 4, whilst a further 293,000 (1.9%) watched it on timeshift service Channel 4+1.

The show’s peak audience came at 10.15pm, when 5.3million were watching, and it attracted three million more viewers than the Channel 4’s slot average for 2009 so far (1.8million, 8.1%).

Whilst it rated worse than last year’s launch show, which drew an average of 5.4million, it was the most watched programme in its timeslot last night.

A Taggart repeat on ITV1 drew the second highest audience of 3.3million (14.8%). BBC One was third, with 3million (13.6%) watching their documentary Calendar Girls: Ten Years On, whilst an episode of The Mentalist on Five was the fourth most watched with 2.5million viewers (11.1%).

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: “Last night’s launch was the second highest audience so far this year on Channel 4. We are very pleased with the viewing figures.”

Meanwhile, the debut episode of Big Brother’s Big Mouth, which aired straight after the launch, pulled in 580,000 viewers to digital channel E4.

Official ratings, which take other factors in to account including those who recorded the show, will be released later.

Is this good or bad?

Anthony says: June 5, 2009 @ 5:45 pm

decent mix of housemates but some of them could be better

The launch wasn`t that good though because most people have picked upon the fact that it did not seem live unlike previous launch nights

There seemed to be a half an hour delay

The fact is there is no live feed and half the live shows are now delayed too much censorship and editing

The launch was alright. I mean people were expecting so much from this series that it was kind of disappointing, but looking back on it, it was pretty good. I think figures won’t be too low from here on out.

LOL Ratings will PLUMMET. Tonight half of the HL show was on at same time as an Apprentice Program on BBC1 and Sunday the much hyped live task/twist will be against the Apprentice final.

Wonder which show will win Hmmmmmm LOL

As I said plummeting ratings. HL Show last night got 2.7 Million viewers on CH4 only ( Excluding +1 etc ). Only third in channel ratings and Beaten by a REPEAT of Doc Martin ! LOL

Viewing figures are respectable, when you think of all the viewing choices people have these days, at least C4 beat the main channels for once!

Matt says: June 6, 2009 @ 2:15 pm

Yeah, there will, but we’re still battling technical issues to get the new site up.

THIS WAS MY COMPLAINT TO CHANNEL 4

I would like to say that this years big brother house and logo and titles
are brilliant but there are a number of problems that everyone are
commenting on. The first one is how small the crowd has become during the
launch it was so small and there was a big gap where the cars pulled in and
it just doesnt seem like a launch show or big brother anymore also THERE IS
NO LIVE FEED.C4 NEED TO GET THERE ACT TOGETHER. We are the only country in
the world not to show BB 24/7 live feed and even the poorest countries
manage to show it! Also its the 10th seriesBIG DISAPPOINTMENT BIG LET DOWN
ITS BORING NO LIVE STREAM WAT HAS HAPPENED 2 ENGLISH PPL and yh maybe no
live stream because of cost cutting but why show it when there sleeping! its
stupid ! cant believe it the biggest of all reality shows. I hope to hear
from you regarding the above matters

THIS IS THE REPLY I RECEIVED

Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding BIG BROTHER.

The red button 24-hour streaming facility was discontinued prior to the last
series of CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER and we have no plans to reintroduce this
service for the current edition of BIG BROTHER.

The main reason behind this decision is that we?ve found the number of
viewers choosing to use the red button facility has dropped significantly
and more and more viewers chose to watch the clips provided on the official
Big Brother and other websites. So we have shifted our resources to cover
these areas and have new fanzones, on Twitter and Facebook as well as our
own site, and we?ll also be working extensively with partners such as bebo,
youtube and MSN to deliver footage to Big Brother fans to keep them fully up
to date with what?s happening in the house.

However, live streaming will be available on both E4 and Channel 4 late
night/early morning and we will be showing all the other great shows that
make up the BIG BROTHER experience, like BIG BROTHER’S LITTLE BROTHER AND
BIG BROTHER’S BIG MOUTH.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate all
feedback from our viewers; complimentary or otherwise.

Regards,

Cassie Singer

Ryan, that must be a template that they have and send to everyone.
Because George Lamb read out exactly that paragraph on BBLB on friday. :/

Oh ok Matt. Hope it sorts out :)

Ryan.B says: June 6, 2009 @ 3:13 pm

you email them and see what they say to you lol that would be intresting

BB10RIP says: June 6, 2009 @ 3:25 pm

@STU : That rating was not Respectable. They came well behind BBC1 and ITV1 for 1st HL. Both A REPEAT of Doc Martin ( 4.1m ) And Apprentice Why I fired them ( 3.6m ) were ahead of them.

CH4 curl up and die - you cream off your slice from the license fee yet you decide to scrap the live feed - what’s with this censorship - the Cold War was over years ago.

Tracy says: June 17, 2009 @ 10:25 am

I got the exact same reply RyanB got when I complained, I complained again that I wasn’t happy with their attitude to stick to their guns and completely ignore what us fans want, without us they wouldn’t have a show!!! There’ll only listen if enough people sign petitions like the one mentioned above and http://www.bringbacklivefeed.co.uk
