The Sun has claimed that Channel 4 is set to axe Big Brother due to the lower ratings that this year’s series has recieved.

A ‘telly insider’ has supposedly told the tabloid that the news will be confirmed with an official announcement as soon as Friday. They quote the source as saying: “The reality is people are bored with it.

“Even at Channel 4 the vibe among staff is that if you like Big Brother you’re not cool.

“If the people commissioning the show don’t think it’s cool, what hope is there?”

An eleventh series will air next summer, as well as another Celebrity Big Brother in January, as part of the broadcaster’s current contract with makers Endemol, reported to be worth £180million.

The show begun in 2000, with viewing figures peaking during the third series in 2002. However, they have declined steadily since 2007, with Big Brother 10 currently averaging 2.2million in overnight ratings.

According to the paper, ‘insiders’ have accused show bosses of watering it down too much to avoid controversy after the ‘race row’ in the fifth Celebrity series.

Their source added: “The truth is nobody’s talking about Big Brother any more.”

However, BB10’s executive producer Sharon Powers recently said that Channel 4 are ‘happy’ with BB. Endemol UK’s chief executive Tim Hincks has also expressed confidence in the show’s future.

Channel 4 are yet to confirm or deny the news.

I’m still talking about Big Brother, and this year has been one of the best yet - why cancel it? If 2.2 million people tune in every night to watch it, thats gotta mean something, right? Just because some people think it itn’s cool, who gives a fuck? Why follow the sheep? If someone likes it, let ‘em watch it.

this series has been one of the best in my opinion, and why would they axe it, it may only be over 2million but it’s still their biggest show by far!!!

it’s true tho, it’s not like it used to be, i mean, they dont hardly torture or punish them anymore, it has been watered down quite considerably.

a bloody shame really that’s what they get for axing the live feed.

I guess the rising of other pseudo reality tv shows like xfactor doesn’t help.

Still i think the xfactor which much more boring bring talentless idiots who whould have no chance in hell makeing it anyway. sure they might be able to hold a fundamental frequency but surely the talent is in the song writeing not the singing.

c4 have not helped them selves either with all this political correctness a sign of thing to come i think. But that’s what we get when people complain for no reason other than they don’t like it for religious or other reasons. What ever happened to “if it offends you then don’t watch it”

Same really no reason why it couldn’t be the show it was once was.

The X Factor and shows like Britains Got Talent get so much hype because they are advertised day and fucking night and they have big names behind them - Big Brither could be JUST as huge is Simon Cowell presented it and was in the papers and promoted every single second of every single day. Thats that.
