Irish vote remains cancelled
C4 unsure over line error
irish-vote-remains-cancelled

bbspy has learned that Channel 4 will not reintroduce public voting in the Republic of Ireland for Big Brother 10.

A technical error in Irish telephone voting lines that was discovered during the Belinda vs. Rex eviction vote in Big Brother 9 last year forced bosses to disable them for the rest of the series.

The lines remained closed throughout this year’s Celebrity Big Brother.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman told us: “Despite extensive work that was done to restore the Republic of Ireland vote, Channel 4 is still not confident that the issue will not occur again.”

Around 1million more votes were cast during BB9 compared to Big Brother 8.

Stick with bbspy…

Seems to me like they are just trying to find ways to pee people off.
No live feed. BBBM cut down as well as Diary Room uncut axe and now this.

As someone who is Irish and is living in Ireland, it isnt the end of the world, most uk shows that are broadcast here you cant vote on, bit still, would of liked the choice.

Personally (im living in england) I think this is a disgrace i bet if it happenend in england they would of fixed it like that! y should it be any diferent! To make it fair i think you should b able 2 vote over the internet if u live in ireland untill the phonelines are fixed! Who agrees?

Aled says: June 3, 2009 @ 7:45 pm

Okay no problem Matt i understand! Don’t want a telling off do you! And btw like setVe.F was asking when is the new look site coming?! Or is this it? Because it did change colours a few months ago?

Do the likes of X Factor and BGT take votes from Ireland?

It’s a problem they’ve known about for ages, and one which can easily be fixed with a bit of effort.

Like the text voting too - the broadcasts all lay down and caved in yet everywhere else in the world SMS voting continues. OFCOM should be targetting the mobile companies, not the broadcasters, to put the responsibility on them should texts arrive after the closing time - and force them to cut the absolutely unreasonable extra charges they put on premium rates.

Indeed, I suspect they’re reluctant to revive text voting because those voting with their mobiles by phoning are charged as much as 50p on top of the premium rate call.

What’s the big deal anyway, Ireland is another country, and this is out BB not theirs, if Ireland had it’s own BB would we be able to vote in it.

Matt says: June 3, 2009 @ 8:28 pm

Technically it’s their BB as well - Channel 4 holds the rights to the format in Ireland and they have open auditions in Dublin.

David McG says: June 3, 2009 @ 8:52 pm

Nope, we cant vote on Xfactor, Britains Got Talent, Soapstar Superstar… any reality show you can think of. Seems pretty wierd if Channel 4 show their channels in Ireland that we cant vote on it, but I guess we will just have to enjoy it as a series.

Another terrible thing, I actually don’t mind because I’m in Scotland, and to whoever said that Ireland should have there own bb they should Big Brother is for the UK(Scotland,England,Wales&Northern Ireland) and ROI. To be honest it’s not really something we can blame channel 4 for.

andy says: June 3, 2009 @ 9:12 pm

Maybe they are trying to save as much money as possible. I would say it would cost more to have phone lines in other countires.

BB10RIP says: June 3, 2009 @ 9:48 pm

Boycott the official BB website !

Stu says: June 3, 2009 @ 9:52 pm

Didn’t know about C4 owning the BB rights in ROI, just thought it was a bit bizzare at first another countries being able to vote in another countries tv show.

BB10RIP says: June 3, 2009 @ 10:24 pm

Yes BB own rights here and in ROI . Interestingly CH4 license states its programming should only be available in UK and ROI.

So perhaps they can explain their fan alienating behaviour of Blocking Youtube BB Clips to UK web users while allowing access outside ? Surely that Breaks their license conditions. If not can they explain why in the later Days of the Internet streaming they used to block access outside of UK giving the license conditions as the reason why ?

I assume Youtube clips are left up outside of UK so UK people can still see the comments etc as a poor form of advertising and to push people to their NAFF BB Channel on Youtube or their even more NAFF Official Website :-)

BOYCOTT THE BB OFFICIAL WEBSITE !

Alec says: June 3, 2009 @ 11:24 pm

They is a petition set up about the YouTube blocking videos..

Will you be launching your new site tonight Matt?

barbara says: June 14, 2009 @ 5:37 pm
