Big Brother fans across the internet rejoiced yesterday after the much-anticipated Big Brother 10 eye logo was finally released by Channel 4.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, this year’s eye is a black, blue and pink swirly fingerprint affair, which was initially leaked on ApplauseStore’s website yesterday before it was put on the official website.
What do I think about it? Well, I love it! The colours are nice: it would have looked worse in green, which seems to automatically be the colour that some fans think the eye will be each year since there’s never been a green logo.
It was an instant sell to me this year too — it took me a few days to grow to like the Big Brother 9 eye.
My one criticism is that it has similarities with Big Brother 7’s spiral design, which remains my favourite eye (mainly because yellow is my favourite colour). Then again, I suppose any design based on a fingerprint would have ended up looking slightly like it. Here’s a comparison, with the BB7 eye mocked up in the BB10 eye’s colours:

However, the eye hasn’t excited me as much as what came with it.
The press release Channel 4 sent out contains the following line:
Big Brother says: “It’s not what you expect it to be.”
What does that mean? Does it refer to the eye, suggesting it might have a hidden meaning, or is Big Brother talking about the series itself - could big changes be on the cards?
I certainly hope the latter is true, because as I — and many other fans — have said before, Big Brother is in desperate need of an overhaul. Series five was trailed as ‘Big Brother gets evil’, and it was a major improvement from the dire BB4, becoming one of the fan favourites — will something similar happen this year, or am I reading too much in to it?
Whatever it means, it’s very intriguing.
